Plague Tapes #55 is going to be the last one for a couple of weeks so we made it a good one. Dr. Groove starts with some tunes from the great Linton Kwesi Johnson – who picked up the Pen Award. His first book of poetry was charmingly entitled -> Me Ravalueshanrary fren – and has been a voice for truth and justice and against the opperssor since I was a child. We are still wrestling with the problems presented in the first three songs seletced. We have good music, a second letter from Italy, some deep poetry in relation to pain and grief which came via Huey Freeman but originally from Khalil Gibran.
News with Andrew, the numbers don’t lie, but politicians do, and the more right-wing they are the greater they lie. R is probably somewhere between 1.2 and 1.8 – perhaps around 1.4 or 1.5 and they are acting fast because the measures, the relaxations which they introduced in Phase 3, on the 29th of June has had an impact and the numbers are going back up, on every level, on the 5 day and 7 day average too. Andrew suggests a way foward for the decent pub owners – you need to wrest control of the vintners association back from the moneygrubbers! None of us are served well here by thinking about the individual or in the short term, and we have stark examples being set on both sides of us about what happens when you open up too quickly. WE – my good people – need to remain vigilant and continue to be the bigger people and do the right thing. Wear masks, and do not let it rise again.

News with Andrew: Cases on the increase on the average cases on both the 5 day and 7 day average, and we look at what this second wave might look like, and what we need to be considering in terms of our own actions. In terms of the actions of our present government, it is clear what needs to be done to enforce the damage that’s stemmed from the opening up, so again, we await skeptical to see if they move against their owners, or themsevles in the case of pub owners.
