Groove On The Wireless #69 For Frankie K

Frankie Knuckles is gone, and that is like switching off a light.  His broad beaming smile which used to light up dark clubs from behind the controls will shine no more.  His music, style, production and mixes went on to light up the world of dance clubs and built the genre known as House.  It defined what kind of space a club could become, and with his partner in crime Larry Levan they began the journey of elevating the role of the DJ’s towards the heavens to the godlike status they enjoy today. Frankie Knuckles started all that.  He showed us what was possible and brought *joy to multitudes. How many people will have that as their Legacy,  the ‘joy bringer’.  This show is all for Frankie.

*My own personal moment was when a friend Paul Rowley dropped a needle on Frankie’s mix of Chaka Khan (track  below) in a dimly lit club on Parnell street and it changed my life.  One moment in the early 90’s.
