New week, new records, new show. First up it’s a couple of records I picked up in town this week. Ty Segall kicks off with a tune of his fabulous recent album Twins before things get all stoner rocky with his even newer band Fuzz. Arizona’s own Tokyo Electron and Texas’s Hex Dispensers keep it fuzzy and then it’s straight into DC live stalwarts The Points. Next up it’s a bit of fairly poppy punk from the High Tension Wires. Eric Davidson of the New Bomb Turks’s new band The Livids are up next and then it’s a bit of The Flaming Sideburns. The Sultans flirt with a bit of garage, before the Cybermen step up to the garage plate. At this point, I got a wild hair and decided to play some properly strange stuff. First up it’s a bit of Metralletas Lecheras (that’s the Milky Machine Guns to you and me), then Teenanger, Nervous Patterns, Six Finger Satellite and the Eddie Current Supression Ring. We get back to some straight up guitar music from The Estranged with the Wipers making it a Portland-Portland double header. The Wipers sent me onto a bit of a classic binge which was satiated by Fugazi, Shellac, Giddy Motors (not classic, but fit well with the noise rock bookending them) and The Jesus Lizard. Wrapping things up it’s another one of Kyle Thomas’s bands, Happy Birthday. Tune in, play it loud.
