Plague Tapes #90
We are in coming into the strange time known as ‘the rough month of the cuckoo – ‘Garbh mí na guach’ which apparently runs from April 15th – May 15th, and has highly changeable weather patterns. I felt that today as I scrambled away from my outdoor coffee with a friend to end up huddled and freezing knocking the hail of myself. This time, this plague tapes is about the springing of spring, the budding, the coming back to life, the songs of redemption, the arising. That’s why we start with the great masterpeice from John Coltrane – Acknowledgement.
The News – at 70 mins
Andrew brings us up to speed as we move into the second week of this vunerable period ahead, and we appear to be doing quite well. Case numbers – daily are down, and there was no real spike due to Easter, and the five day case average is down to 404 from last weeks figure of 536. This is all due to people being amazing and observing the conditions of the lockdown. The other side of the equation is to recognise the vaccine program which last week administerd 97% of the vaccines that came into them. That is also impressive. It is now estimated that R is below 1, 0.9 and that we are following an optimistic trajectory, as illustrated in a graph which might have us below 100 cases per day by Mayday. Wouldn’t that be amazing. We also talk about the vaccine roll out that might be capable of delivering 90% vaccinated adult population by end of quarter 2. It is one of those weeks where it is good news, and going in the right direction, towards the endgame we go.
