77 Mins in The News Andrew brings us a good sign from the North. The island is moving in different directions, a tale of divering states, thanks to the huge roll out of vaccines in Northern Ireland. Either way, the lack of excess deaths marks a moment in time when people can say in the North that they are beginning to emerge from the pandemic, due to the lack of excess deaths. There is also a decrease in cases in Northern Ireland.

In the Republic, we are bumping along on a plateau. The schools opening up, appears to have resulted in a 10% week on week reduction, plateauing to a place where there is now no real decrease, and we have a steady500 cases a day. The other factor at play here is the vaccine being rolled out. We have the plan to have 82% of adults vaccinated by June, and much of the work is going to happen in April and May. We need to try and ensure that we don’t go from 100% to 130% because that might signal the start of losing control of it again. Both Italy and France are back in lockdowns, and going through another wave of infection.
