  • Slight Return 1

This is Slight Return. I had a little trouble with audio this week, but you’ll get to hear my squeaky undertone another time.

Slight Return is a nod to two of my favourite types of music – bluesy rock and the distinctive indie flavour of the 90s.

So on Slight Return you’ll get a little vintage, a little indie and a little up to date too.

Groove On The Wireless 81 Lazy Hazy July (in the city)

Dr. Groove put this show together in a lazy hazy July evening and hopes that it finds you in a similar way.  Easy mellow slow grooves which start with Pink Floyd tampered with the Orb sound and then we find ourselves drifting onto an electronica sea, set adrift.  There sounds like the voice of Javier Bardem giving advice on the search for love on the El Txef A which I first heard on the excellent An Taobh Tutaill.

Valentine Stip leads us beautifully into the most exciting Hip Hop that I’ve heard in a long time.  Dr. Groove has been waiting for the voice of the new Irish youth to emerge and I think that God Knows brilliantly supported by the beat of mynameisjOhn on their new mixtape Rusagano family – which is available via Bandcamp and it is strongly recommend that you get this.  You can with this album hear the next generation of Irish Hip Hop come of age.  Major Props [this is hip hop lingo] to my friend Shane who tipped me off about these guys via the Dr. Groove on FB.  We end the whole show with some graffiti writers talking about tagging cars in New York City.

So put on a good set of cans [headphones] and get a cool drink and settle for an hour of good music.

    Enjoy

    Tracklist

This Show Totally Rocks 93 17th July

This week’s show was supposed to be a tribute to the late Tommy Ramone and all of the Ramones really so it starts off with The Ramones and some of their contemporaries; The Dictators,  New York Dolls and The Dead Boys.  But then the speed of the Ramones knocked me into a more 80’s hardcore vibe with The Mad, Kraut, Really Red, Misfits, The Angry Samoans, The Adolescents, The Descendents, 7 Seconds, Scream and Dag Nasty.  At the half hour mark the show returns to more of an homage to the sound of the Ramones with Mean Jeans, The White Wires, Bad Sports, Teenage Bottlerocket, The Circle Jerks, The Boys, The Dickies, The Steve Adamyk Band, The Hives and The Wax Museums. At the end The Stooges get a look in before an absolute classic from Taste finishes the show.

It may be a bit all over the place, but its all fast and most of it has some sort of pop appeal to it, so that’s The Ramones in a nutshell.

Turn it up, play it loud, RIP the original punk line-up.
