    CULTURE SHOCK ON TOUR!

    it’s been a while…but the renewed interest in the band following the ‘Everything’ box set prompted us to rethink the old adage that ‘it’s not going to happen’, wondering instead whether it COULD happen- ‘us’ at that point was Dick and Jasper talking in the back of the van after a Citizen Fish gig. The main thing was finding someone who could adequately fill the enormous gap left when Nige passed on- we asked Alex, who plays trumpet for CF [and played guitar and sang for Bender], as he had the ability, and the urge… Bill was only too keen to unpack his kit, and in January we had the first of several practices. And it’s working! We’ll be doing a UK tour in October in as much free time as we currently have, and trying to reach as many areas as possible. See you somewhere on the way!

    Another show, we edge closer to the big half century.  I was eating Vietnamese food in Parnell street when I spotted Thom Yorke  on the far side of the street in Neary’s.  I popped over for a chat.  Unfortunately, much as I admire him he wasn’t very chatty.  I think he’s one of the good guys – much inspired by Reclaim the Streets, as Dr. Groove was, so we have that in common.  He is not a man with messianic tendencies unlike Dr. Groove.

     The faces of the Prophets are pasted on the walls of derelict streets of this city.

     

    On with the music – we  start with what I call the coffee scene from Breaking Bad, and then onto the good music, with a slice of Radio Head from, can you believe it, 10 years ago.  Then we go into a riddim which brings us into hip house, (categorization is a problem for me) and on through old school Techno, new drum machine patterns and finally coming out the other end with Synkro’s handiwork and an impressive new Irish producer, Lasertom.  Enjoy people, and don’t take any guff for the swine.

    This week’s show is all about the Garage Punk and the Power Pop.  Things kick off with a classic from the The Dickies before we stall it in Denton Texas for  Bad Sports, The Uptown Bums, The High Tension Wires, The Novice, Low Culture and The Fungi Girls. Next up it’s a home grown and brand new tune from   Squarehead and a not so new one from  So Cow. Things go pretty garage with   Oblivians, The Drags and Th Losin’ Streaks. At the half hour mark it’s a brand spanking new one from Ty Segall’s stoner wig out band  Fuzz which is followed by fuzzy stonkers from The Moonhearts, The Spits, Hunx and his Punx and Big Eyes.  Then it’s back to a few classic tunes from L7, X-Ray Spex and  The Modern Lovers. Near the end it’s another brand new Dirtnap release from  The Missing Monuments  before The Fall wrap things up.  There’s a few dedications sprinkled about and if you want me to play anything on the show or mention your gig, please contact me here.
