    So, this week Sir Ernest Crackleton utters not one single word, because it’s a special mix that was intended for a backyard barbecue a couple of weeks ago, except the podcast wasn’t finished in time, because the keys to the Crackleton Manor music studio went astray, and the studio was inaccessible, but the barbecue still went smashingly, a good time was still had by all, despite the lack music.

    Sir Ernest, luckily regained entry to the studio last night, and finished the mix – it’s a splendid selection of recordings from 1914-1950, except of course, for the snazzy intro theme song at the beginning… and if you think this is worth keeping available for future generations to enjoy, consider making a small donation to Radioactive International, or buy one of their wondrous garments, and be the absolute envy of all your friends and neighbors.

    Lockout Podcast – Episode 3 – Housing Then & Now

    The third episode of the 1913 Unfinished Business series on the centenary of the Lockout looks at the changes over the years to housing in the city, while addressing the lack of centrality housing plays in current political discourse.

    We speak to historian Terry Fagan of the North Inner City Folklore Project about tenement life and the struggles which have taken place over the years to improve housing conditions in the area.

    We look at Republican Socialist James Connolly’s writings on the topics of land, private property, landlordism and housing, which he saw as representing the essence of the ‘Irish question’.

    We also talk to Stephen Rigney and Eoin O’Mahony, two geographers based in Maynooth, about their current Dereliction Project which maps disused buildings in the inner city.

    Mother voted, I drove her down there to exercise her democratic right in room one, and we came back and I recorded the show.  In the morning when we woke up, we found things were much the same as they were.  Now, I know my anarchism makes me know that it doesn’t matter who you vote for, the government always wins, but I thought that voting in referendums at least changed something.  Not this time.  Nothing changed.  The Plain People of Ireland decided to keep the convalescing home for the hasbeen gombeens who can’t get elected, or for the retired advisors of ministers who’ve just lost their seats, and we don’t even bring in a new court.

    So lets focus on the show, who is that in the N-Zone – John Candy.  The 49’ers ‘Walk’ down, the field, lead by the blonde QB, the go for it, and take the ball ‘home.’

    Mam informs us about spiders and we get into a soul thing with Ziggy and his Spiders, and the soul as remembered by Paul Mason for the culture show recently.  Finally, we catch up with Thom and his new work, Atoms for Peace and finish with a remix of one of theirs.  Next Week – the big 5 0.
