That Canada Totally Fucking Rocks

This week’s show is all about Canada in anticipation of the Fucked Up gig in Whelan’s on Monday.  Every band tonight is from the great white north. (That’s Canada ya’ll)  First up it’s two very different songs from Fucked Up.  Then it’s on to a couple of new (to me) songs from White Lung and Crusades.  Propaghandi, SNFU and The Dayglo Abortions are nearly household names (what a household), whereas Teen Crud Combo, The Brutal knights and the Young Canadians might be slightly more obscure.  The Pointed Sticks bring some classic power pop to the proceedings before we go a bit more contemporary with Sedatives, King Khan and the Shrines, The Spaceshits, The White Wires, the Sonic Avenues and The Steve Adamyk Band.  Young Gary Byrne turned me on to The Sonic Avenues which led me down the path to the rest of the Ottawa Power pop scene, so next up is Gary’s band The Flagpolers.  After that it’s two Fucked Up side projects.  First it’s guitarist Ben Cook’s Young Governor and then it’s drummer Jonah Falco’s band (which he plays guitar and sings in) Career Suicide.  Rounding things off are some stone cold classics from bands that prove that Canada has been rockin for years and years.  The Hanson Brothers, DOA and NoMeansNo.  It doesn’t get better than that!  So now that you are convinced of Canada’s rock-itude, head down to the Fucked Up gig on Monday and rock out.
