Andrew brings us the news, with lovely ambient noise in the background of dogs barking and children roaring at each other –even though we are flying blind thanks to the hacking attack which has crippled the HSE computer system.5 day case average was 417 – growth – 0 – 2% a day – shirnking slowly – these were the figures that we had before the cyber attack landed on Friday.
Funnily enough today was the last day for the VPA – vulnerable period ahead – our 42 day cycle – we got to the end with something between 400-450 cases per day.This is a big deal.
The potential for fatal outcomes lowers to significantly lower figures.There is a little more talk on B16172 variant of concern – and we have moved into the ‘cautious reopening phase’.Also we can look to the UK, how it ploughs on with its plan to reopen, and with pubs in particular as this variant appears to be more infectious, and it could really create a 4th wave there.
And finally we talk a little about these cyber attacks, as I have no idea how they work, and Andrew has some details on how this might’ve come in and the problem that those poor tech guys are facing to bring those systems back up.

The News
Andrew brings the news that we had unoffical vaccines yestereday of 42,000 and the 5 day case average is creeping up to 448, and the 7 day average is up at 110% rather than 88%.So all this means is that we are seeing the curve go up, and that is always a concern, coming as it does in this vulnerable period ahead.It appears that this is in relation to workplace outbreaks, the essential work being carried out by intel has led to workers there becoming infected, and that is a big plant and has an impact on all the surrounding counties.Finally, the figures coming from out of the North of Ireland are encouraging as the NI statistics are showing that excess deaths are going down, and have been since 28th Feb. They are now at almost 50% vaccination, but it does show we are closing in on emerging from here.We just gotta get through the new few weeks of the VPA.

So NPHET – which has been backed by about 70% of people in the public opinon polls who back current restrictions, wrote a 32page letter, half of which is appendices to medical and scientific papers, and darwing on the negative experieince in Europe when they attempted to open up in early October, saying that we could not come out of this Level 5.The govenement wishes to ignore this expert group, so they commission Enrst & Young – and they even say it is unwise to open up restaurants,and then they go ahead and lift restrictions anyway.That is about the size of it.Andrew says this with the conviction of someone who follows the science and data, but that is essentially where we are at. This is what happens when you are led by donkeys.
